ABOUT

The winery Basilisco since its start, in the early 90s aimed the highest quality both in the vineyards and in the winemaking thus becoming in a short time a pearl in the Italian Southern scenario. In 2010, Basilisco was acquired by Feudi di San Gregorio, and started its organic conversion. The 25ha of vineyards and 25ha of olives and woods are located in the territory of Barile, on the hillsides of extinct volcano of Monte Vulture at 450-600 meters above sea level. The volcanic composition of the soil, rich in humus and mineral substances, and the particular microclimate with a great temperature range make this land ideal for grape growing. Vinification and cellaring occur inside eight caves that were created in the fifteenth century by Albanian refugees who were fleeing the Turks.

Today, under the guidance of Viviana Malafarina and Pierpaolo Sirch, they are producing wines that express the rich viticultural history of Basilicata. Viviana Malafarina is the “face and the soul” of Basilisco: she manages all the aspects of the winery and work with huge passion in the cellar guided by Pierpaolo Sirch who is also responsible for the vineyards.
