In 1962, father and son, Daniel C. and Daniel J. Gainey founded Gainey Vineyard. Today, third-generation owner, Daniel H. Gainey is assisted by John Falcone, General Manager and Director of Winemaking, Jeff LeBard winemaker and Jon Engelskirger consulting winemaker.

Gainey was among the first to explore the macroclimates of the eastern Santa Ynez Valley and the western region of Sta. Rita Hills. The Home Ranch Vineyard, which is located on the warmer eastern edge of the Santa Ynez Valley, is planted with Bordeaux varieties. The Evan’s Ranch and Rancho Esperanza Vineyards are located in the cooler western end of Sta. Rita Hills and planted with Burgundian varieties. The vines are farmed in a sustainable manner using cover crops, compost and organic sprays.
